Freyja’s Daughter (Wild Women Book 1)

I’ve mentioned before, I’m just one small part of a large group of debuting authors. If you haven’t checked out all the new reads, you’re missing out. There’s something there for everyone!

Throughout my time with this amazing group, I’ve befriended a few of these authors. I grew especially close to none other than my feminist sister, Rachel Pudelek. We instantly connected with our passion for fighting the patriarchy and being social justice warriors.

Growing up with three sisters sparked Pudelek’s passion for both women’s history and women’s advocacy, which led to her career as a birth doula and childbirth educator. These days she channels those passions into writing fiction, which is why I’m talking about her today.

Pudelek sent me an advance reader’s copy of her debut novel, Freyja’s Daughter. I read it in one day because I became obsessed with the story:

In this new fierce-feminist fantasy series, FREYJA’S DAUGHTER introduces us to Faline Frey, a bounty hunter and member of the Washington huldra coterie, who must unite the succubi, harpies, mermaids, and rusalki to rescue her sister and escape the clutches of the Hunters––the mysterious men who have been controlling the wild women for centuries.

I wish I could give you spoilers, but I don’t want to ruin the story for you!

Of course, as a feminist I was immediately interested in reading Pudelek’s work. As a reader and academic, I was nervous. I’ve been told before how “feminist” something is only to be let down by its limited definition and imagination. This does not happen in Freyja’s Daughter. The story is imaginative and gripping. The characters live in their truth and you can see what it’s like to be each sect of Wild Women with the great characterization Pudelek will become known for.

If you’re looking for a great read with bite and heart, look no further. You can get your copy of Freyja’s Daughter wherever books are sold! Don’t forget to help a new author out by liking her all over social media and leaving a review of her work!
