In the Wake of Stars: a love letter

Call me weird or whatever, but recently I reread my books The Starless Series. I know what you’re thinking, “You wrote them? You know what happens??”

Well, sure, but I forgot 🤦🏻‍♀️😅

Truly! It’s been some time since I reflected on these works and what they meant. It was one part self reflection and another part eye opening experience. I learned a lot about myself during my reread—some good some bad, but over all enlightening to enrich the future.

As I rounded out the original series, IN THE WAKE OF STARS was a real stand out. Why? Because I realized, rather quickly, it was a love letter to my life partner, my husband.

In every loving interaction or blow out fight between the various couples, I saw us. Our beliefs about relationships. Our hopes for the future. Our deep respect and admiration for the other. It holds a complicated mix of love and hurt that showcases a healthy relationship. (And before you come for me because of that last sentence, cálmate. I’m a couples therapist. I don’t believe in perfect or a relationship without hurt. See my previous posts/writings.)

Why hadn’t I realized what I had done originally? I mean, the book is dedicated to him, you’d think I’d had a clue!?

All I can think is that while writing it my spirit set free my inner world that I struggled to express to him. Through our ever evolving relationship and our own couples therapy, I might not need the book to do the heavy lifting for me anymore. I can confidently say, I now do it myself. Though it is nice to have a physical reminder of my love.

If you’re curious to see my love come to life, IN THE WAKE OF STARS, and the whole Starless Series is available now and free on KU. 💛
