Self-Care vs Rest

I’ve been thinking about rest lately.

Thought I’d say self care didn’t you? 😅 Though they can be similar, in this case, it might not be.

Self-care is anything we give ourselves to give back—to fill our empty cup. We do this so we can keep going, keep battling life and the systems of which we live, and to stay healthy in the darkest of situations.

Rest is taking a step back with a focus on regrouping, reconnecting to self, and relaxing in order to be present.

See how they can be similar?

I’ve been known to flirt with burn out and over commit to things. I’ll be honest: my self care game is strong, but my resting is weak.

This summer (yes I gave myself a season to figure it out) I’m doing my best to relearn what it means to rest and to honor what I discover. So, far it’s a lot of nature and earthing. It’s a lot of quiet. It’s a lot of not calling people back (I will eventually!).
